PRESS RELEASE: TI International Piano Competition Winners 2015
Winners in the 1000 Islands International Piano Competition were announced Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the conclusion of the three day event. The competition was in Cape Vincent NY on the grounds of the historic Maple Grove Estate.
In the Junior category (under age 19), first place went to Charlie Liu (age 15) from Princeton, NJ. The second place award went to Oliver Betz (age 16) from New York City. No third place winner was named. Charlie Liu was selected by audience members as their favorite pianist in this division.
In the Senior category (ages 19-25), the judges chose not to award a first place prize. Second place was awarded to Edward Leung of Ozone Park NY. Edward is a senior at Princeton. Two third place winners were announced - Maria Parrini of Greenville, South Carolina (Cleveland Institute of Music sophomore) and Daniel Parker of Cambridge, MA (MIT senior). Edward Leung also won the audience award in the Senior division. Honorable Mention award were presented to Yong Murray of Groton MA (Columbia University junior) and Nathan Cheung (Eastman School of Music masters degree student).
Once again, the community of Cape Vincent extended a warm welcome to all of the competitors and their families. Committee member express many thanks for all the generous monetary donations from individuals, local civic groups and businesses! Thanks also go out to families who hosted the contestants and all the volunteers who worked during the three day event. Without this support the Cape Vincent Arts Council alone could not provide this program for young people.
